During an interview with Katie Neal, Blake Shelton revealed how a song he originally discarded eventually became Toby Keith’s No. 1 hit, “I Wanna Talk About Me.” Shelton said he would go in the studio singing “really terrible, inappropriate, stupid rap songs” just to shock his producer, Bobby Braddock. “I did it so much that he decided he wanted to write me a rap song, and so he went and wrote, ‘I Wanna Talk About Me,’” Shelton recalls. “I actually cut the song. I said I wanted to put it on my album, so we went in and recorded it.” The track didn’t resonate with Shelton’s focus groups, leading it to be passed to Keith, who turned it into a chart-topping success. “I like to think it was meant for Toby,” Shelton admits, while revealing that Keith teased him about the song. “He always used to give me crap about it.
