Parmalee’s new single, “Cowgirl,” continues the string of successes that the North Carolina band has achieved since the release of their first single, 2012’s “Musta Had a Good Time.” Three of their recent singles, the Blanco Brown collaboration “Just the Way,” “Take My Name” and “Gonna Love You” all reached No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart. But Parmalee wanted to break from the mid-tempo ballads of their past hits, and write a more propulsive song with more kick. “We needed something catchy, something fun in there,” says guitarist/vocalist Matt Thomas. “We needed something to sing that’s going to be abstract.” The drumbeat at the heart of “Cowgirl” was fashioned by a UK songwriting team who sent the song to 33 Creative in Nashville. “Coming from the U.K. and everything, they’re trying to write towards country music and get into this genre,” says writer-producer David Fanning. “And they just send us something that we really were like, ‘Hey, that sounds fresh. How do we make this Parmalee?’” (Billboard)
