Idaho will receive $9.3 million to improve its electrical grid infrastructure.
The U.S. Department of Energy says the Gem State, six other states, three tribal nations and the District of Columbia will receive a total of $77 million in federal grants focused on modernizing the electric grid to reduce impacts of extreme weather and natural disasters and to improve overall reliability.
The Idaho Capital Sun reports the state will run competitive solicitations to determine specific projects.
The grants are funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and administered by the DOE’s Grid Deployment Office.
