Caldwell Police Department responded Tuesday, December 13th, to a possible domestic violence incident occurring in a vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was identified by Caldwell Police as 27-year-old Jose S. Hernandez-Lopez.
The suspect was located near Ustick Rd. and Florida Ave. where officers attempted to pull over Hernandez-Lopez. Lopez failed to yield, and officers deployed a spike strip near Indiana Ave. and Fair Oaks Dr.
Hernandez-Lopez stopped a short distance later but refused to comply with officers. The victim was able to get out of the vehicle and officers were able to safely get her away from the vehicle.
At that point, Hernandez-Lopez surrendered peacefully without force and no officers were injured.
The suspect has been charged with eluding, false imprisonment, interruption of a telecommunication device, and resist and obstruct.
“We continue to work with Advocates Against Family Violence and other agencies to stop the cycle of abuse. I am glad no one was injured and that the suspect made a wise decision to surrender peacefully because the outcome could have been very different. I am proud of the professionalism the officers showed today,” said Rex Ingram, Caldwell Police Chief.
