Meridian says goodbye to Mayor Tammy de Weerd

Meridian’s Mayor Tammy de Weerd is saying her goodbyes to the community after nearly 20 years of service.

She met with citizens Thursday at Meridian City Hall.

The mayor started her service with the city as a charter member of the Parks and Recreation Commission. She was then elected to the Meridian City Council, where she served four years, two as president. Her election in 2004 to the mayoral seat made her the first woman mayor in the history of the city.

Looking toward the future, she believes the city will have a strong leadership through the new mayor-elect, Robert Simison.

Mayor Tammy de Weerd tells CBS 2 News she’s not completely out the door just yet. Her official last day will be on January 7th.
