An Eagle man who police and prosecutors say falsely claimed his mother was alive for more than a year faces a host of new criminal charges — and he might face more.

Attorneys still do not have a full coroner’s report on the death of William Rhoton’s mother. He’s accused of not reporting her death, which is believed to have occurred in May 2018, when she was 97 years old, and of keeping her body in a car in a field near his home.

Prosecutors say he lied and collected Social Security benefits in her name.

The Idaho Press reports, in court Wednesday, Rhoton’s attorney said the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office is charging Rhoton with another six criminal counts. It means he faces eight felony charges total.

The case is set for an Oct. 2 hearing, but Rhoton could face additional charges still, in addition to Wednesday’s six.
