Valley Regional Transit considers fare increases

Valley Regional Transit is considering fare increases and is taking public comment on the proposed hikes.

The fare increases will cover the cost of services. The last fare increase for Ada County was in 2003, while Canyon County saw a fare increase in 2008.

A single ride is $1. If implemented, fares would go up 50%, to $1.50.

The Idaho Press reports, the fare increase would not be applied to senior citizens or those with disabilities.

There are two open houses and public hearings where the public can give input.

The first open house is Tuesday at the Nampa Public Library, from 5-6:30 p.m.

The second is Wednesday, at the Collister Branch of the Boise Library from 5-6:30.
