An Eagle man is accused of failing to report to authorities that his mother had passed away — and police believe she could have been dead for months.
The Ada County Sheriff’s Office says Eagle Police arrested William Rhoton this week for failure to notify or delay notification of death to law enforcement.
The investigation started after police were contacted by someone who said it had been years since anyone had seen Barbara Rhoton. While conducting a welfare check, Eagle Police were unable to find her, but talked to her son, William. The sheriff’s office says William told police that his mother was visiting friends in another state but after investigating they determined she had passed away months before.
CBS 2 News reports, her body had been moved into an empty SUV about a mile and a half away.
William Rhoton was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail. The coroner’s office is conducting an autopsy on Barbara.
