City of Boise files petition with U.S. Supreme Court to hear appeal of homeless camping lawsuit

The city of Boise on Monday filed a petition with the U.S. Supreme Court to hear its appeal of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal’s ruling on the ongoing homeless camping lawsuit.

In April, the 9th Circuit denied the city of Boise’s request to have a rehearing after the court ruled against it last fall, saying the city’s policy about homeless people was unconstitutional.

Monday’s filing asks the court to extend the deadline and begin the review of the case and the process for determining if the court will ultimately take it up.

CBS 2 News reports, if approved, the deadline will be extended to Aug. 29. From there, final notification about whether the court would hear the case should not be expected until October.
