The Star Middle School principal facing charges of injury to a child has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.
The West Ada School District says, Tony Nelson faces two counts of felony injury to a child. His wife, Pamela Nelson, also faces three counts of the same change. Both were indicted by a grand jury on May 9th and have since bonded out of jail.
Tony Nelson, formerly a principal at Eagle Middle School, became the first principal of Star Middle School when it opened in August.
The Idaho Press reports, the Nelsons are accused of withholding food from children, causing the children to become malnourished. Tony Nelson is accused of keeping a child isolated in a room and leaving bruises on the backside of a child.
Star Middle School’s vice principal, Tyler Pence, will serve as acting principal during Nelson’s absence.
Tony Nelson is scheduled to be in court on July 1st for an arraignment.
