Lawmaker: Feds May Have the Solution to Hemp Legalization in Idaho

Boise (670 KBOI News) – Hemp still isn’t legal in Idaho…not to cultivate, not to transport, nothing. The 2019 Legislature failed to pass bills to legalize hemp cultivation, and even a last-minute bill to at least make it legal to transport across the state.

Midvale Representative Judy Boyle says those farmers who want to grow hemp can take heart…the feds are coming up with their own plan, which the state could just adopt next January.

“This Fall, they will have a USDA plan, and for states who have reluctant law enforcement, or state directors who don’t want to do this, you can just adopt the USDA plan, much easier, cheaper, faster,” said Boyle.

She says state law enforcement and prosecutors lobbied several of her colleagues and the governor’s office to turn them against hemp legalization.
