Mayor Darin Taylor defied the Middleton City Council’s second request for his resignation Wednesday night during a tense and crowded city council meeting, but he won’t seek another term this November.
This was the first city council meeting Taylor has attended since his March arrest on a charge of domestic battery. Taylor presided over the meeting, during which the city council unanimously voted to adopt a resolution requesting Taylor resign.
Police say Taylor grabbed his wife during a fight on March 2. After spending the weekend in jail, Taylor pleaded not guilty in court on March 11.
Taylor made no mention of resigning after the unanimous council vote, instead saying he planned to work with the city council through the rest of his term. He confirmed to the Idaho Press that he will not seek re-election in November.
