Nampa (670 KBOI News) – Six months after the first bond was rejected, the College of Western Idaho says it will not ask voters to approve a bond for a new health science building this May.

The Idaho Press is reporting the announcement was made by CWI Board Chairman Skip Smyser, who said he’d met with community groups, and found a lack of support for a new bond election.

He said the timing wouldn’t be right, given the voters will be asked to approve funding for a new Canyon County Jail.

The $47 million, 10-year bond would make space for 2,500 students a year to take health and science classes.

If CWI doesn’t come up with the money by June 30th, it could lose a promised  $10 million dollars from the Permanent Building Fund…though a school spokesman says he’s talked with lawmakers who say they could stretch that date a little.
