A bill to prevent the forced annexation of agricultural land five acres or larger is one step closer to becoming law after passing the Idaho House of Representatives.
Not a single representative opposed the bill during the Tuesday morning debate. The Idaho Press reports, of the 69 representatives present, all of them voted in support, sending the bill to the Senate.
The bill, HB 25, sponsored by House Majority Leader Mike Moyle, would amend Idaho law so that any agricultural land five acres or more cannot be annexed without the express written permission of the property owner.
Moyle said the intent is to prevent cities from force-annexing agricultural land, raising residents’ property taxes in the process.
