St. Louis, MO (670 KBOI News) – The Census Bureau released it’s report of the fastest growing states from 2017 to 2018, and Idaho, again was top of the list, tying with Nevada for the fastest growing state.
But now, a national moving company is weighing in, and Idaho again ranks in the Top 5 destinations for people from outside the state.
According to St. Louis-based United Van Lines’ 2018 National Movers Study, Idaho was the #3 destination for people moving from other states.
Vermont topped the list, but the next four states were in the West…Oregon at #2, Nevada at #4, and Arizona at #5.
In fact, United says Western and the Southern states are the top destinations of people, most of whom are leaving the Northeast, the Midwest and the Great Lakes states.
New Jersey had the most people leave in 2018, followed by Illinois, Connecticut, New York, and Kansas at #5.
A United Van Lines spokeswoman said the top reasons for moving to Idaho were retirement, being closer to family, and a change to a more simple lifestyle.
Only about 23% of their customers moving to Idaho said they were coming here for a job.
