Boise (670 KBOI News) – What’s left of a $9,000 experimental street mural in downtown Boise will be removed this weekend, but the City’s Art and History Department is leaving the door open to more of them in the future.

In a statement released this morning, Public Art Manager Karl LeClair said  “While the outcome is extremely disappointing for all, we plan to build upon this experience and hope to explore the feasibility of intersection murals like this one in the future.”

The mural was painted in the intersection of 8th and Fulton Streets in August, and only about two months later, had worn or washed away.

The statement blamed “material failure”.

The project was approved by the Ada County Highway District as an experiment in 2016, and the $9,000 price tag was paid by the Capital City Development Corporation, using tax increment dollars.

The intersection of 8th and Fulton will be shut down Sunday for the removal.
