DUI Killer Headed Back to Jail

Boise (670 KBOI News) – A man who pleaded guilty to reckless driving in a 2013 DUI crash that killed a cyclist in Boise is headed back to jail…for DUI.

The Idaho Press is reporting Gavin Haley violated his probation when he was cited for misdemeanor DUI on June 30th. He had served 90 days for the guilty plea in 2016, and was placed on two years’ probation.

In 2013, Haley admitted he had been drinking when he hit Victor Haskell on State Street, but drove off because he didn’t realize he’d hit someone. Haskell was killed in the collision.

He was charged with vehicular manslaughter in 2015, but the trial ended in a hung jury. Prosecutors re-filed a manslaughter charge against him, but he pleaded down to reckless driving.

Haley will now have to serve the 65 days that were suspended when he was released on probation.
