BLM Rounds Up Nearly 1,200 Horses Along Idaho-Nevada State Line

Elko (670 KBOI News) – The Martin Fire in Northern Nevada burned over 400,000 acres along the state line with Idaho…and that left hundreds of wild horses without enough food to make it through the winter.

So the BLM went ahead and held two roundups, says spokesman Greg Deimel.

“One in the Antelope Valley, which is south of Wells, Nevada, and then we conducted a gather up in the Owyhee Emergency Wild Horse Gather, which was scheduled for later in 2019, but it happened earlier due to the Martin Fire.”

They rounded up nearly 1,200, 873 of which will be adopted out at some point. 280 horses were returned to the area, some after getting fertility treatments.

Deimel says if you’d like to adopt a horse, their next adoption event is coming up on the 20th. They’ll have both trained and untrained horses available.
