Meridian (670 KBOI News) – The Boise Metro area is growing like crazy, but what about Boise itself?
Not so much, according to personal finance website, Wallet Hub, but Meridian is number 14 in the nation, according to their metrics.
Analyst Jill Gonzalez says for their rankings, they looked at more than just how many people were moving to a city.
“It’s one thing to look at which cities are growing just in terms of population, but to really gauge local economies, we wanted to look at not only population growth, but also job growth, household income growth, ” said Gonzalez. “We wanted to look at a couple of areas that have actually decreased, including unemployment and poverty rate.”
Nampa ranked the number 57 fastest growing, while Boise was far behind, at number 180.
Gonzalez says higher home prices often lead younger, working age families to move to the suburbs, rather than their larger urban centers.
