Idaho Middle of the Pack for Teachers, says Wallet Hub

Boise (670 KBOI News) – PERSI is solvent…there’s one year left in the teacher career ladder, and if Superintendent Sherri Ybarra’s budget is approved in the 2019 session, starting teachers will make at least $38,000 a year.

All in all, analyst Jill Gonzalez with personal finance website Wallet Hub, says Idaho is the number 26 state in the nation for teachers.

“In terms of salary, in terms of income growth potential, teacher pension, as well as public school enrollment growth, it did a little better there; in the Top 20,” said Gonzalez.  “But it could use a little more work when it comes to things like pupil-to-teacher ratio, public school spending per student, and teacher talent turnover.”

When it comes to student performance and safety, Idaho didn’t do quite as well. Gonzalez says test scores were below average, and Idaho is one of the worst states for bullying…when combining test scores and student safety, Idaho is number 38.
