Boise (670 KBOI News) – The cool, wet weather today in the Boise and Sawtooth National Forests is helping firefighters in their effort to get the Wapati Fire under control.
It was first spotted about 2:00 Saturday afternoon and spread quickly, says Mike Williamson with the Boise National Forest.
“It spread quickly; we have it at 6,190 acres approximately,” said Williams. “We have quite a bit of resources on the fire now, we have nine engines, we have five helicopters, two air tankers, five hand crews, we have 172 people on the fire, total.”
Highway 21 is open, and Williamson says they don’t expect it will have to be closed.
Still, there are some closures in the Boise and Sawtooth National Forests, so if you’re headed to Redfish Lake or Stanley for Labor Day, check before you leave.
