Idaho’s 18-24 Year Olds Are 17th Most “At Risk” in the Nation

Boise (670 KBOI News) – Sometimes Idaho scores high and its good…other times, it’s not so good to be at or near the top.

Personal finance website Wallet Hub ranked the 50 states and Washington DC on how at risk their youth are…and Idaho came in 17th. As in 17th most at risk.

Senior Editor John Kiernan says a lot of our kids are just sitting around.

“16th most at risk for the share of ‘disconnected youth’, which is people who are 18-24 who are not in school, and not working, and have a maximum of a high school diploma,” Said Kiernan.  “Also (Idaho) came in at 11th most at risk in terms of youth obesity.”

It’s not all bad, though…our young people score low in the rankings for drug use or heavy drinking.

Western States didn’t do very well in the ranking, with nine states in the Top 20…Nevada at number 4, Oregon, New Mexico, Alaska, Wyoming, Washington, California, then Idaho, and Montana at number 18.
