Coroner Identifies Man Shot by Meridian Police During Domestic Dispute

Meridian (670 KBOI News) – The Ada County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man shot and killed by Meridian Police Saturday.

48-year old Robert Lyle Barton of Boise died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Police went to the home on Newport Street in Meridian just after noon Saturday, on a domestic disturbance call. The victim told officers Barton was tearing up the house and had a knife. When officers found him in the back yard, he reportedly told them he wasn’t going back to prison, and pulled out a gun. One officer fired his service weapon, hitting Barton in the chest.

The shooting is being investigated by the Critical Incident Task Force, with the Boise Police Department as the lead agency.
