Idaho Army National Guard Aviation Unit Deploying to Afghanistan

Gowen Field (670 KBOI) – For the eighth time in the last decade, helicopter pilots and crew members of the Idaho Army National Guard are deploying to support operations in the War on Terrorism.

About 30 personnel with the 1st Battalion, 168th General Support Aviation Regiment will take off Thursday, for a training period at Ft. Hood Texas…and from there to Afghanistan to support Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

The deployment will be for a total of 12 months.

The 1/168th flies the UH-60 Blackhawk, and will conduct Medevac missions in Afghanistan.

Another, smaller Idaho Army Guard aviation unit is currently supporting Central Command operations.
