Meridian (670 KBOI News) – Saturday at Mountain View High School, five Republicans who want your vote for the 1st Congressional District seat took turns answering your questions.

On the subject of border security, all agreed we need a wall, although they didn’t all agree on what form the wall should be.

State Representative Luke Malek of Coeur d’Alene said the border is a crisis.

“I do support building a wall.  I support anything that makes our border more secure.”

State Representative Christy Perry of Nampa says its Congress’s duty to defend us from invasion.

“Yes, I absolutely support building a wall on our Southern border.  Our Constitution clearly tells us that our nation has the right to defend itself.”

Former State Senator Russ Fulcher said build the wall, but that means more than just a physical structure.

“Yes.  It might not be a solid, physical wall, for the entire space, but certainly a virtual tool of some sort, combined with a physical wall.”

Author Michael Snider said he’s wanted to see a wall built for a long time now.

“I supported building a wall even before President Trump came on the scene.  We’ve left the back door completely wide open, for drug dealers, gang members, Islamic terrorists…we said ‘come on in’.”

Former Attorney General and Lieutenant Governor David Leroy said technology and boots on the ground are needed, too…

“I do support President Trump in the building of the wall.  That wall can be in three components: it can be physical structure, it can be technological structure, and it can be additional enforcement personnel.”
