Risch: Russia, Iran As Much To Blame for Gas Attack As Syria

Washington DC (670 KBOI News) – Only days after President Trump announced he wanted to pull US troops out of Syria, yet another chemical weapons attack was launched on the rebel-held town of Douma, east of Damacus.

Idaho Senator Jim Risch, a member of the Foreign Relations and Intelligence committees, says obviously, Syrian President Bashar Assad didn’t learn his lesson last year when he used chemical weapons, and got hit with cruise missiles for it…

“This is the second time he has used chemical weapons on his own people, that is clearly documented,” said Risch.  “He’s actually done it many, many times.  But the President laid that down, as a red line, and did something about it last time.  He’s been given a list of options, and I suspect he’s gonna pick one of those options, and I suspect it’s gonna be more stringent than last time.”

Risch says the Russians and Iranians have their fingerprints all over last weekend’s attack.  With people from both countries currently stationed at Syrian air bases, artillery and missile installations, and factories, some have speculated that could serve as a deterrent against a United States retaliatory strike.  Risch disagrees.

He has advice for the Russians and Iranians…if you don’t want your people to be caught up in the coming US retaliation, pack your bags and leave.
