First Bill of 2018 Session is Headed to Governor

Boise (670 KBOI News) – The very first bill of the 2018 legislative session is headed for Governor Otter’s desk.

House Bill 335, which would lower the rate business owners pay into the unemployment insurance fund, has cleared both houses of the Legislature.

House Majority Leader Mike Moyle of Star sponsored the bill…he says it’s needed because businesses have been overpaying into the fund ever since the economy began recovering from the Great Recession.

“Over three years, it’ll save $115 million, and put that back in the business’ hands, so they can expand their businesses, or pay higher salaries or whatever they choose to do with it,” said Moyle.  “But it’s a good bill for the State of Idaho, it’s good for business.”

Moyle says the bill has worked its way completely through the system in three weeks, and that goes to show there’s a lot going on at the Statehouse, even before they get down to debating a budget.
