Washington DC (670 KBOI) – The so-called government shutdown is over.
Both the US Senate and House of Representatives voted to re-open all government operations this morning, by passing a three-week temporary spending bill, or “continuing resolution”.
Idaho Senator Jim Risch says he thinks the Democrats picked the wrong fight at the wrong time.
“I think the Democrats mis-read this,” said Risch. “I think they were quoting the polls which said everybody wanted to see something done about DACA, and we agree with that. The problem is, they didn’t answer the next question, that is ‘are you willing to shut down the government’?”
Risch says they’re working to come up with a fix to the DACA problem, but at the same time, the American people deserve a fix to the border security problem, the immigration reform problem, and more.
Does he think Congress will be able to come up with a fix to all that in three weeks? Risch says don’t count on it.
