We’ve seen at least a trace of snow accumulate in Boise for 11 straight days, but that streak looks like it’s coming to an end today. Look for mostly cloudy skies with highs in the mid-40s. A strong low-pressure system will move into the Treasure Valley late tonight and cause light to moderate periods of rain for most of Friday morning and parts of Friday afternoon. Our low tonight will be 35 degrees, so it will likely be too warm for any snow to accumulate or possibly even fall.
Our mountains are in for a very snowy Friday. Valleys in the West Central and Boise Mountains are forecast to get 6-12 inches of snow by the end of Friday with 12-20 inches possible at higher elevations. Winds will also be very strong with gusts of up to 45 mph in those areas. The Sun Valley region will also get some significant snow. The region and its surroundings will get about 3-10 inches of new snow accumulation with up to 18 inches at higher terrain. Winds could be between 40-50 mph in some of these areas as well. If you’re looking to travel through any of these mountain valleys for the weekend, you may want to leave today because tomorrow’s travel conditions will be dangerous and very difficult.
We should get a break from storms on Saturday as skies will likely open up to some sunshine. However, moisture will return early next week with rain showers expected on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Stay tuned!
