Fire near Birds of Prey ignited by target shooting

Fire crews have contained a wildfire that ignited south of Boise on Monday evening, and officials have already determined the cause.

It turns out the fire wasn’t caused by fireworks, as one might have suspected, since it was July 4th…but investigators discovered it was shooting-related.

The Idaho Statesman reports BLM Boise District spokesperson Jared Jablonski said even though the BLM in May put a fire prevention order in place, shooting has caused more fires than usual on the Boise District this year.

The order, in place through October, prohibits the use of fireworks, steel-core ammunition, exploding targets and other items that can explode or ignite.

The fire, which burned 114 acres, broke out around 8pm a little more than a mile from the Birds of Prey area, and was contained by 11:30pm.
