Willowcreek Fire grows to 42,000 acres

Firefighters are progressing toward containment of the Willowcreek Fire.

Vale Bureau of Land Management officials said in a news release last night (WED) that crews were working to keep the Willowcreek Fire between Willow Creek and Interstate 84.

As of 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the fire had grown to over 42,000 acres.

The fire is burning in sagebrush and heavy grass stimulated by the abundant spring rains, which dried out quickly when temperatures began rising.

The fire was reported on private land Tuesday afternoon, then crossed onto lands managed by Vale BLM.

The cause is under investigation.

No injuries have been reported, no structures are threatened and no evacuations have been ordered.
