Bill to add optional USA designation on driver’s license moves through statehouse

A bill that could change the way your driver’s license looks is moving forward at the statehouse.

House bill 527 allows drivers to have the option to add the designation of U.S. citizen on their driver’s license.

It was met with some debate in the senate but ultimately was voted to move forward.

The bill states this will not impact the general fund, as the transportation department would be able to use an existing budget to cover these costs.

If passed this option will be available in January 2023 as the department of transportation will have new systems to support it.
