Donald Trump is the runaway winner of the Tuesday Republican Primary in Idaho. That’s no surprise, of course, with the President taking in 94% of the GOP votes – nearly 108,000 votes in all.
The majority of Democrats gave Joe Biden a win over Bernie Sanders in Idaho last night, when all the votes were counted. Biden brought in 48% – roughly 52,000 total votes to Sanders 42% and 45,000 votes.
Sanders did very well in the Treasure Valley. With 100% of precincts reporting in Ada County, Biden edged Sanders, by just over 1000 votes. In neighboring Canyon County, Sanders scored a close win by about 200 votes. Canyon County was one of just five counties that Sanders won.
It was the first time Idaho Democrats used a primary. In 2016 they used a caucus to select Sen. Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton. Officials predicted the switch to a Democratic primary this year could significantly increase the number of participants, and play a role in the outcome.
