Redshirt junior STUD Curtis Weaver was included on updated candidate lists for two end-of-season awards, being named a semifinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, and to the final watch list for the Ted Hendricks Award.
The Ted Hendricks Award recipient is scheduled to be announced Wednesday, Dec. 11, while the Lott IMPACT Trophy winner will be announced at a black-tie gala Sunday, Dec. 15.
Weaver has established himself as one of the top pass rushers in the country in 2019, currently ranking in the FBS top 10 in sacks (third, 13.5) and tackles-for-loss (sixth, 16.5). Even more impressive, Weaver is 6.5 sacks and 4.0 TFL, clear of the next-best Mountain West defenders, respectively. He also has 44 tackles on the season.
The Long Beach, Calif., native was named a Midseason All-American by both The Athletic and Pro Football Focus. This season he’s recorded at least one sack in 11 of Boise State’s 12 games, and put together three multi-sack games, highlighted by a four-sack effort Sept. 14 against Portland State and a three-sack night Oct. 5 at UNLV. The effort in Las Vegas made Weaver the Mountain West’s all-time sack king, passing the previous benchmark of 29.5 career sacks. Currently, Weaver, sitting at 34.0 career sacks, is the FBS’ active career leader, four ahead of Ohio State’s Chase Young.
Weaver and the 20th-ranked (CFP) Broncos (10-1, 7-0 MW) will close the regular season Friday at Colorado State (4-7, 3-4 MW) before hosting Hawai’i in the 2019 Mountain West Championship Game Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m.
