Idaho 1st District Congressman Russ Fulcher sent out a taxpayer-funded mailer described as an “Official Congressional Survey” to 120,000 Idaho residents, but the mass mailing violated House franking rules by going to thousands of Idahoans who don’t live in his district.
While the franking privilege lets members of Congress send mailings to their constituents in their districts at taxpayer expense — within certain rules — they’re not allowed to send them to residents of other districts.
The Idaho Press reports, Fulcher’s office acknowledged Thursday that the mailing went to 19,000 addresses in Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District, violating the franking rule.
Meanwhile – the Idaho Statesman reports, they spoke to Fulcher’s office, and a staffer blamed the violation on a third-party vendor.
