A changing of the guard at the Boise Police Department.

After 27 years of service, Chief Bill Bones is retiring.

Bones served as Boise’s Police Chief since 2015, when Mayor Bieter appointed him to the post.

Prior to that Chief Bones worked as a deputy chief and oversaw patrol, criminal investigations and internal affairs divisions within the Boise Police Department.

Bones tells CBS 2 News he now plans to travel with his wife and see the world following his retirement.

Former Boise Police Chief Mike Masterson will take over the department in an interim role while the city searches for Bone’s replacement.
