The Idaho Attorney General’s Office concluded the Elmore Co. sheriff did not intend to misuse public funds when he gave a retiring deputy time off with pay.
The AG’s office was asked to look into the situation following a whistleblower’s complaint earlier this year.
CBS 2 News reports, Sheriff Mike Hollinshead gave a retiring deputy 40 hours paid time-off after 17 years of service.
The sheriff told CBS 2 he was trying to make a recognition of that service.
Someone within the department complained about it to the AGs office, who then conducted what it calls a thorough investigation.
The investigator’s conclusion found no intent by the sheriff to misuse public funds and recommended the Elmore Co. sheriff personally reimburse the county $1,000 for the salary expenditure and that he have some remedial training on county leave policy.
