Boise man convicted of sex crimes that date back to 2005

A local jury has convicted a Boise man of sex crimes that date back to 2005.

The accounts two women gave in court of being sexually abused by Gilberto Roman-Lopez in the mid-2000s led the jury to convict the man of three counts of lewd conduct with a child and two counts of sexual abuse of a child.

The Idaho Press reports, the abuse wasn’t reported to police until 2014, when the girls where teens. The younger girl told a friend about it, and then her mother, who told police.

Police met with Roman-Lopez in September 2014. After his interview, prosecutors claimed, he fled the state. He wasn’t arrested until March of this year, when police found him near Denver.

A sentencing hearing in the case for Dec. 11.
