Eagle High School teacher makes first courtroom appearance

We know more today about a former Eagle High School basketball coach who was arrested on charges that included rape and sexual battery of a child.

Jeff Ranstrom, who faces life in prison, was arraigned in state district court Thursday after he allegedly had a lengthy illegal sexual relationship with a 17-year-old.

He’s being held on a $500,000 bond with a preliminary hearing set for Oct. 17.

An Ada County Spokesman told CBS 2 News the illegal contact occurred at homes and other places around the Treasure Valley. Prosecutors allege it happened in a classroom at Eagle High School.

They say cellphone videos were made, which led to additional charges of child pornography.

Ranstrom made his first appearance in court Thursday, where it was revealed he came forward to authorities, after contacting an attorney.
