Eagle High School teacher charged with rape and sexual battery of a child

A former Eagle High School basketball coach was charged Wednesday with rape and sexual battery of a child.

Jeff Ranstrom is alleged to have had a lengthy illegal sexual relationship with a 17-year-old.

Ranstrom was the head coach of the boy’s varsity basketball team for the last three years until resigning a few weeks ago.

CBS 2 News reports, Ranstrom also taught social studies at Eagle High School for six years.

He’s been charged with felony counts of rape, sexual battery of a minor between the ages of 16 and 17, sexual exploitation of a minor, and burglary in connection with the case.

Detectives arrested Ranstrom late Wednesday, and he is set to make his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon.
