After Sunday’s burn operation along Idaho State Highway 21, firefighters are continuing to secure the east side of the Canyon Fire, and monitor the area for hot spots.
The Canyon Fire is located southeast of Bull Trout Campground and 14 miles west of Stanley.
Fire crews today are conducting burn operations on the northern perimeter of the fire.
The latest statistics on the fire indicate it is roughly 303 acres and 18 percent contained.
Crews are hopeful for larger containment gains with favorable wind conditions and weather outlook. The fire is expected to remain active within the perimeter for several days as flames move through unburned fuel pockets.
Smoke from the Canyon Fire and other nearby fires may affect the overall air quality of this area.
Fire danger many parts of Idaho is high due to 100 degree temperatures and drying fuel conditions.
