16-year-old boy found guilty in Canyon County murder trial

A jury on Wednesday convicted 16-year-old, Juan Menchaca Olvera of the robbery and first-degree murder of 16-year-old Roberto Gomez in September 2018.

The jurors offered the verdict after deliberating for less than three hours.

Olvera, was charged as an adult with robbery and first-degree murder of Gomez, who was shot to death in Nampa on Sept. 25, 2018.

The Idaho Press reports, Gomez was shot in the back three times at the intersection of 11th Avenue North and Powell Avenue, while driving away from his RV on a motorcycle.

Nampa Police played audio interviews of Olvera’s own family and friends who said Olvera had done it. Olvera said he never told his family and friends differently because he wanted to appear “cool.”
