100 Deadliest Days

Boise (670 KBOI News) – The time between Memorial Day and Labor Day — essentially summer break — is known as the 100 Deadliest Days, as it pertains to teen drivers.

Matthew Conde of AAA Idaho says with kids out of school, and more focused on summer jobs, friends and fun, the number of kids involved in crashes on the road spikes.

And he says it’s gotten worse just in the last few years.

“2,000 Idaho drivers, ages 19 and younger, were involved in fatal or injury traffic crashes in 2017,” said Conde.  “That’s twice as many as we would expect, given the population size.  They were also disproportionately cited for things like speeding, inattentive driving, following too closely, and even failing to stop at stop signs.”

He says parents absolutely should enroll their kids in driver’s ed, and let their kids have as much time as possible behind the wheel, to get experience.
