Minor Accused in Kuna Gang Rape Transferred from Ada County Jail to Juvenile Detention

Boise (670 KBOI News) – A 17-year old boy accused in the February gang rape of a Kuna woman is being pulled out of the Ada County Jail, and will be held in the Juvenile Detention Center until his trial in August.

According to the Idaho Press, a judge ordered Ulimwengo Lupango transferred to juvenile detention, saying holding him in solitary confinement at the adult jail could be bad for his mental state.

Idaho law says minors accused of rape are automatically charged as adults, and automatically held in adult jail. But the law also says they have to be completely separated from adult prisoners, so Lupango has been in solitary for 23 hours a day.

Lupango, his brother Elias, Swedi Iyombelo and Mulanga Rashidi are accused of raping the woman in a car in a Kuna neighborhood in February. Bail for all four was set at $250,000 dollars.

Their next court appearance is scheduled for July 23rd, with a jury trial set for August.
