Hemp is still illegal to grow, and even transport in Idaho.
The 20-19 legislative session came to an end Thursday, with the House rejecting Senate amendments to House Bill 300, which intended to make it legal for truckers to transport hemp across state lines.
It’s already legal at the federal level to do that, as per the 20-18 Farm Bill.
But according to the Idaho Statesman, representatives took issue with the amendments added in the Senate, which would have, in part, created a state hemp program, and extended the safe passage to Canadian hemp transporters.
During committee testimony, supporters of H-B 300 argued that if Idaho failed to make it legal to transport hemp, truckers would simply avoid Idaho altogether.
