Idaho State Department of Agriculture advising caution over case of Equine Herpes

 

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is advising horse owners to be very careful about traveling with the horses, and to disinfect all equipment, clothing, tack, and stalls, after a horse in Ada County was diagnosed with equine herpes.

The Idaho Statesman is reporting the horse recently returned from a barrel racing competition in South Jordan, Utah, and traveled from Arizona to Idaho in February.

Owners are also being cautioned about traveling to Nevada, where an equine herpes outbreak forced several horses to be quarrantined after a high school rodeo.

Equine Herpes can lead to respiratory distress, neurologic disease and abortions..the horse in Ada COunty is under quarrantine.
