With growth here in Idaho, some property managers say tenants rent in Ontario and commute to Idaho for work.
With that in mind, a mandatory rent control law is now in effect in Oregon, the first statewide measure in the nation.
Governor Brown signed the mandatory rent control measure for Oregon in late February. The bill went into effect immediately.
The Oregon’s Governor says it will provide immediate relief to renters struggling to make payments in tight rental markets.
And from now on, the state limits rent increases to once a year. The law also prohibits landlords to serve no-cause evictions after a tenant’s first year of occupancy.
CBS 2 News reports, in Ontario, a standard 3 bedroom, 2 bath house runs between $1,200 and $1,400 a month.
