Some schools are closed today due to student and teacher illnesses

Have you had your flu shot yet?

Liberty, Victory and Legacy charter schools will be closed today (Thursday) and Friday due to an excessive number of student absences from illness.

The flu and strep throat are the culprits for the closure, according to a statement from the Nampa School District. The schools will re-open Monday.

The Idaho Press reports, at least 15 schools in southern Idaho had closed due to illness in January and February.

State influenza surveillance coordinator Randi Pedersen said the common strain this year, H1N1, tends to hit youth more severely.
