Group Changes Tactics, Pushing for Public Approval for Library, Stadium Projects

Boise (670 KBOI News) – A member of the group Boise Working Together says they’re upping their effort to let the taxpayers of Boise have a chance to speak their minds on plans for a new main library and a sports stadium, both in downtown.

Dave Kangus attended Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, where the council shared their thought on the projects — each of which could cost taxpayers directly or indirectly over $100 million — but didn’t take any public input.

“There was no back and forth feedback,” said Kangus.  “They were like ‘okay, I can see how the stadium is a non-core function of the City, that yeah, we can take a vote on that’, but they  felt the library was a core function, and there was really no need to take a vote on that.”

He says they’re getting a new petition printed up, calling for voter approval of both projects…they had been circulating a petition calling for a non-binding advisory vote.

Kangus says they’ll need to gather about 6,000 signatures before mid-April to get the issue on the November ballot.
