Boise (670 KBOI News) – Under a rule change that sailed through the Idaho Senate Resources and Environment Committee, You Tubers and bloggers that shoot videos or still shots of Idaho State Parks would not have to pay a fee to do so.
Right now, the law states that anyone taking pictures or video for the purpose of profit has to pay a $100 fee, plus pay for extra security and other accommodations.
But Idaho Parks and Recreation’s Keith Hobbs told the committee they want to clarify the rule, to specify that it’s only big shoots, with sets, models, film crews and so on.
“If the production requires the assistance of park staff, to mitigate that impact in some way, that’s one reason we’d expect some compensation,” said Hobbs. “Typically, that is not the case, but it’s not outside the possibility as well.”
When asked how many times each year one of those film shoots happens, Hobbs said about 8-10…usually for commercials.
Sen Jim Guthrie of Inkom said while he’s not opposed to the rule, it sounded like a solution in search of a problem.
